Italian-Zambian singer-songwriter Lorenza Marino releases new single 'Italian & Zambian'
Occasionally, an artist writes a song as part of their school or university coursework project, only for the track to find life beyond the classroom. Famously, Declan McKenna wrote 'Brazil' as part of his music GCSE coursework, famously achieving 99/100, and more recently, proud Manchester quartet Westside Cowboy submitted their first EP, 'This Better Be Something Great,' as part of their final-year uni coursework.
Now, Italian-Zambian singer-songwriter Lorenza Marino joins that lineage. Written for her uni dissertation, 'Italian & Zambian' explores heritage, identity, and belonging through her dual cultural background. Drawing from a rich blend of African and Mediterranean influences, Marino crafts a sound that feels universally celebratory. Celebrating the intersection of cultures that has shaped her.
The track she wrote in her bedroom caught the attention of her university, which awarded her the opportunity to record the track at the famous Abbey Road Studios. What began as a school project has grown into something that Lorenza could've never imagined. This track is a display of a true artist embracing who she is, and therefore, her art enables others to do the same, from a dissertation project to connecting people across continents. From a bedroom to Abbey Road studios, this feels like the start of something much bigger for Lorenza.
